First shovel in the ground at Goulburn Valley Health
Independent Member for Shepparton District Suzanna Sheed today celebrated the beginning of site works at Goulburn Valley Health.
Ms Sheed joined Minister for Health Jill Hennessy to mark the occasion, which saw the first sod turned on the $169.5 million hospital redevelopment.
“The Goulburn Valley community has been looking forward to this day since the Government announced the funding in last year’s budget and it is such a pleasure to celebrate this significant moment in our hospital’s history,” Ms Sheed said.
“Now we have builders on board and site works underway, it won’t be too long until we see a crane in the sky over north Shepparton and a flurry of activity in the health precinct.
“The development of such a world-class facility in our backyard only strengthens the case for a specialist cancer treatment centre and I will continue to advocate for such a service on the community’s behalf.”
Ms Sheed said it was pleasing to see such high targets for local content and steel, as well as the builder’s commitment to engaging Aboriginal employees as part of the region’s Algabonyah Employment Partnerships Program.
“It is so important in large-scale projects such as this that local business is involved as much as possible,” Ms Sheed said.
“The sourcing of production materials from the district, as well as the creation of more than 140 jobs at the peak of construction is a great boost for the region.”
