Value of Indigenous sports, outweighs financial investment

June 09, 2016

Independent Member for Shepparton District Suzanna Sheed says she’s excited by the results of the latest report released by La Trobe University, highlighting the impact of the Rumbalara Football and Netball Club.

The university study showed the social return was worth more than five times the cash and volunteer investment in the Aboriginal-run club.

“The club has proven to be a successful model to improve the mental health and well-being of the Indigenous people in the Shepparton district community,” Ms Sheed said.

“It’s been able to do this by forming strong partnerships within the community, and empowering its members and its youth over its 20 year history.

“I’m pleased the true value of this club, has now been quantified.

I commend the club and its members for their hard work, and look forward to working with the committee into the future,” Ms Sheed said.
